UK leads the way in cheap mobile broadband

It has been revealed that the UK offers the cheapest mobile broadband services in Europe, beating France, Germany, Italy, and Spain when it comes to mobile broadband costs.

Whilst the UK is often slated for its high cost of living amongst other things it has emerged that Britain is leading the way when it comes to cheap mobile broadband services in Europe. According to data released by CCS Insight the UK has beaten France, Germany, Italy, and Spain in terms of its provision of cheap mobile broadband services, which will come as good news to many tech savvy consumers and business users.

The UK is said to have driven down average mobile broadband prices to just over fifteen pounds. France, on the other hand, was found to be the most expensive of the five leading markets, charging as much as seventy six pounds for 4GB of data. The data suggested that users in France often paid twice as much as those in the UK for mobile broadband access.

Subscribers across the five leading markets are set to increase from twenty two million to around forty three million by 2011 according to some industry experts. This will see revenues increase to around eleven billion euros from six billion. At present Italy tends to charge broadband customers on a time based model rather than a set amount of usage, but many think that this will change in line with other European markets.

One industry official said that as technology in the mobile broadband sector improved consumers would be able to start enjoying benefits that rivalled those of fixed line broadband, stating: “As the GSM family of technologies continues to evolve and we see increased deployments of HSPA+ and LTE networks, Mobile Broadband users will experience even faster data rates, more than sufficient to compete with fixed line broadband offerings.”
