Dongle prices are dropping
Experts are showing that the value of modem dongles for mobile broadband are getting cheaper as competition between providers intensifies and they do more to entice new customers.
An expert has found that the average price of the modem dongle is rapidly dropping after beginning its lives as a quite expensive piece of technology. An independent financial adviser for The Motley Fool, Szu Ping Chan, has highlighted the huge reduction of USB modems offered by mobile broadband service providers.
Due to the number of service providers now offering access to mobile broadband in the marketplace the level of competition for new customers has increased very rapidly. And one of the effects this has had is that the price for these USB modem devices has seen several drops in price in recent months.
Ms Ping Chan said: “Mobile broadband dongles were all the rage at the start of the year, enabling you to surf the net wherever you are, whenever you like, the only trouble was they were rather expensive.”
An example she gave of these reduced costs was for 3’s mobile broadband offer of £5 per month for users who also have a mobile phone contract although there are many other providers who currently offer similar options for users looking to go mobile. Many service providers look for ways to make their mobile broadband packages cheaper and the USB modem is another of the many ways in which they can offer a more attractive package to users looking for the best deal. Not only is pricing reduced for these dongles but these days are often offered free with many of the more expensive packages as a way to get users to opt for the more highly priced monthly tariffs.
