Following a survey showing the actual average speeds that mobile broadband users in the UK are achieving one industry group has said that broadband advertising and service needs to change.
Mobile broadband has fast become a very popular service amongst both business users and residential users. With mobile broadband services consumers and business professionals can get online whilst out and about, with the service offering them the ultimate in flexibility, freedom, and convenience. There has been a significant take up in mobile broadband services in the UK recently, but the main disadvantage is that the average speed of this service is not as fast as fixed line broadband.
Some mobile broadband providers have been trying to overcome the problem relating to speed by advertising impressive ‘up to’ speeds, such as Vodafone, which has been advertising speeds of up to 7.2Mbps. However, one industry group recently carried out tests that showed the average speed that was being achieved by many mobile broadband users in the UK was actually less than 1Mbps.
The industry group that carried out the research has now said that as a result of the evidence of his low actual speeds mobile broadband providers need to change the way that they are advertising. He also said that there needed to be changes made to the customer service provided by mobile broadband providers, as well as the sales techniques used by the providers.
He said: “Mobile broadband can be perfect for a lot of uses, even at speeds below 1Mbps. But consumer expectations are not being met, which could lead to burn out and a slow in sales.”
