The number of people taking up mobile broadband services has been increasing recently, and some industry officials now believe that by 2011 the number of mobile broadband connections could exceed the number of fixed line connections in the UK.
Both mobile broadband services and fixed line broadband are now popular in the UK, and the take up of mobile broadband has rocketed recently, with an increasing number of people looking to sign up to mobile broadband because of the convenience, flexibility, and ease that it provides at a relatively low cost.
As mobile broadband has become more and more popular many people have speculated over whether people will start to replace fixed line broadband in the future, but so far most have said that this is unlikely to happen and that people are more likely to use their mobile broadband service to complement their fixed line service rather than to replace it.
However, recent reports have now been released claiming that mobile broadband could actually end up replacing fixed line broadband in many households by as early as 2001, with the number of mobile broadband connections expected to exceed the number of fixed line broadband connections by this time.
One industry official involved with the rport said: “Mobile will become the primary access point for brands and businesses communicating with its consumers within two years. Mobile is always-on, and the average user carries their device for an average of 16 hours a day. So if a company or brand is not already considering how to use mobile, then they need to because their customers are.” It is thought that already up to ten percent of business Internet traffic is being generated from mobile broadband devices.
