Wireless networks and mobile broadband increase popularity of virtual office
According to a recent report the availability of wireless networks and mobile broadband is making it easier for business people to operate a virtual office without the need to be tied to a fixed base
According to a recent report the traditional office based culture for UK businesses may soon become a thing of the past, with advanced technology making it easier for people to operate a virtual office, where they can run their business, do their work, and keep in touch with others whilst out and about.
A report was recently released by the Centre for Future Studies, and officials from the group have stated that the level of accessibility to wireless networks as well as to mobile broadband has made it possible for far more people to operate a virtual office, where they can go about their business whilst on the go, with no need to be tied to a particular base.
The Centre for Future Studies has also said that the rise in wireless networks and broadband technology has resulted in the likelihood of more and more people enjoying the benefits of a virtual office. The report added that many companies were now operating more flexible working opportunities where employees could work away from the office for some of the time.
One senior official with an IT company said that the advancement of broadband technology in terms of mobility was making the concept of the traditional office less and less important for many businesses. He said: “Call centres are weighing up options to allow staff to work from home. Technology is bridging the distance between the desktop and the corporate database”.
He added: “If you have a mobile phone in one hand and a computer in another, it doesn’t matter where your desk is. But you do need decent bandwidth to enable certain software systems to run effectively.”
