The future of mobile broadband predicted by Ofcom
Regulatory body Ofcom believes that the mobile broadband market in the UK is going to get much bigger in the future.
Estimates show that by December 2008 the projected sale of dongles will be around three hundred thousand per month building on the two million British users that are already using mobile broadband services. It is also considered to be the growth of mobile broadband that is aiding the steady increase of the penetration of broadband services across the country with six on every ten British people accessing the service.
Peter Philips from Ofcom said “Our devotion to watching, listening and staying in touch wherever and whenever we want shows no sign of diminishing and, with healthy competition, overall prices offer increasing value for money.”
It was shown in recently released figures that there has been an huge increase from 69,000 to 133,000 dongles sold per month so far in Britain this year. The most likely reason for these increases is a combination of increased competition in the mobile broadband market and a greater need for freedom with broadband users. The fact that mobile broadband has become faster and the coverage for many providers is improving every month means that for many the mobile broadband option now seems a much more viable option to regular broadband.
With an increasing array of choices and offers for many users, both the cost and accessibility of mobile broadband is obviously bringing about much more interest in the mobile broadband market. This makes things interesting for both service providers and customers and will undoubtedly mean even faster access and wider coverage in the future. The introduction of new technology like HSDPA and 4G is sure to bring new customers and provide an even more solid customer base for mobile broadband operators.
