Smart phones continue to cause problems for mobile networks

Although many mobile broadband users have benefitted from the existing 3G mobile networks that are in place the rising popularity of smart phones could continue to jeopardise the level of effectiveness for those using these networks.

The existing 3G networks that are in place in the UK have proven ideal for many users of mobile broadband dongles, and for many these networks have provided them with additional freedom, convenience, and flexibility. However, there is evidence that the rising number of smart phones being used by people in the UK is continuing to affect these networks.

A number of reports have been released showing that mobile internet devices and smart phones have had an adverse effect on network capacity, and another recent report has now confirmed that network capacity continues to be adversely affected because of the urge in data transfers. This is causing these 3G networks to be less efficient and slower.

Officials believe that whilst the mobile internet era could be good news for operators there could be severe problems created on the networks at least until upgrades have been carried out so that next generation 4G networks are in place. These next generation networks are able to handle the increase in traffic and congestion without adversely affecting other users.

With new and improved smart phones, such as the new Apple iPhone 4, hitting the shelves on a regular basis the increased traffic from smart phone use could continue to get worse, and these could have a severe adverse effect for those that have become reliant on 3G networks to get online whilst out and about.
