Reviews conducted by PC Pro magazine have shown that of the five major mobile broadband service providers 3 offers the lowest charges and the fastest overall connection speeds.

A recent review carried out by the PC Pro magazine has shown that users taking out mobile broadband access through 3 would get the quickest connection speeds and the lowest prices out of the top five service providers. The reviews compared the deals for mobile broadband that were on offer with Orange, T-Mobile, 02, Vodafone and 3.

The review revealed that the highest “actual throughput” speed recorded was 2.6Mbps which when compared to the 2.8Mpbs speed they advertised came the closest out of the providers. When tested in inner-London the average speed of connection was around the 1.6Mbps mark which compared very well against the test results of the other service providers that were being reviewed.

The magazine also commented that “3 offers the cheapest monthly broadband tariff, but also recorded the fastest connection speed of the five networks tested here. Connection speeds were consistently between 1 and 2Mb, providing comparable performance to Vodafone.”

The only negative comment in the magazine review was regarding the connection speeds when using mobile broadband on trains that travelled through deadspots in which its performance was lower than

Overall, however, 3 did manage to beat the average speeds of the other service providers and came the closest to matching the speeds advertised on its site. 3 maintains that the speeds shown on its website, although not the fastest available, do offer a more realistic and accurate speed than its competitors. The best speeds for all the providers would be in areas with the largest coverage and for lower coverage areas speed would have been lower.
