Protect Your Smartphone from Theft: Keep Phone in Pocket and Use Hands-Free Device

Jan 24 2012 / By Alex Ion

Emergence of digital technology has raised a lot many new security issues unknown in the past. However, even when digital technology has proliferated deep and wide, some conventional threats are still looming large on the security of these new age devices. This is not our assumption; we are pretty sure some you have played some real life games with the guy who tried snatching your iPhone at the darker corner of the street.

According to the crime figures released by the UK police, the rate of smartphone snatching incidents have gone over the roof with a 400 percent increase in a 12 month period.  The figures are alarming.

As per police reports, the cases has jumped from 157 in 2010 to 786 in 2011. Altogether, UK police is getting complaints on at least 250000 to 300000 robbed mobile phones in UK every year. As per certain observers, since these figures are just the cases which are reported to the police, the actual figure may be higher than that.

The usual way of the smartphone thieves, according to the police, is to approach the victim from behind without giving any clue. Often they use bicycles to snatch the phone and escape in a flash.

As per the police, the usual patterns of the incidents indicate that the devices which are carried visibly in public places are more vulnerable to the attack.

Well, we feel there is point. Most of the victims and the experts in the field suggest that using hands free measures to use the devices and keeping them concealed in the pockets or the valet will be the most effective preventive measure. Do you have any suggestions?
