Notebook sales at Christmas are going to be crazy say laptop manufacturers

Great emphasis is being placed by laptop manufacturers on the fact that the sale of notebooks will get a huge boost through the mobile sales channel at Christmas.

The Netbook X110 will be the first notebook to be released this year by LG mobile and will be released through the mobile arm of the company instead of its electronics section. The X110 will come with 80GB of HDD storage space, 1GB of RAM, and will come in two versions. Before it is released into the wider PC marketplace it will be made available from Phones4U exclusively until the end of this year.

John Barton, the LG Mobile UK sales and marketing director said “Laptops are going to be big this Christmas. Hopefully this will be the first of many for us, but we wanted to walk before we even trotted. We know people want to be able to access the internet in its entirety, wherever they are. Now we’re allowing them to do just that from a feature-rich device with all the styling people have come to expect from LG.”

The inclusion of notebooks in the product line is a first this year for laptop manufacturer Asus with the company looking to sell 400 000 over the three months running up to Christmas.

An Asus spokeswoman said “The deals have created a gap in the market – 96 per cent of the people who buy these deals have at least one PC or laptop and buy this one as a second.”

Graeme Badenoch, HP head of telco channel advised “It’s a very important part of the market for us. The bundling of PCs with broadband is definitely here to stay and embedded SIM cards are going to significantly increase from now.”

The ‘One’ laptop that was launched in February by Elonex and sold through its exclusive retail partner Carphone Warehouse was said to have gone “crazy” stated Elonex. An Elonex spokesman said “So many companies have now joined the game, sales are going really crazy.”
