It has been claimed in a recent report that the popularity of mobile broadband services could see global users increase to one billion by the end of this year.

Over recent years mobile broadband services have become increasingly popular in developed countries around the world, and have given tech savvy consumers the opportunity to be able to get online no matter where they are as long as there is a mobile phone signal available. The freedom that this has offered both business and casual broadband users has been welcomed, and the popularity of this technology has continued to surge.

It has now been reported that the popularity of mobile broadband and internet has increased to such a degree that there are likely to be around one billion global users by the end of this year. At the end of 2010 global subscribers had increased to half a billion, so if this prediction comes true it would double the number of subscribers across the world in one year alone.

The figures and prediction has been released by communications giant Ericsson, and the company has been tracking the increasing popularity and use of mobile broadband in order to come to its conclusion with regards to continued growth of the technology this year. Around four hundred million subscribers will come from the Asia Pacific area according to Ericsson, with two hundred million a piece coming from North America and Western Europe, and the remainder from other parts of the world but in smaller numbers.

Ericsson also said that last year was a successful one when it came to the development of LTE, or Long Term Evolution, which will allow for far better quality with mobile broadband.
