With a number of people predicting that mobile internet usage is set to grow, Ofcom has recently looked at how many people use mobile internet as their main means of getting online

Things are forever changing in the world of broadband. Just a decade ago many of us would not have even known what broadband was all about and few of us had access to the Internet at home. Those that did were largely stuck with dial up broadband, resulting in a lot of frustration.

Just five years ago most of us were happily using our broadband from the comfort of the home or office on a desktop PC, with few people imagining that just a few years later many people would be getting online using their phones and laptops whilst out and about.

Advances in technology have shown that mobile internet and broadband usage us becoming increasingly popular, with a number of people using it as their only means of getting online these days. With one industry official claiming that mobile devices were the future of the internet, Ofcom recently released details of a study showing that at the moment around seven percent of internet users relied on their mobile devices as their sole means of getting online.

In 2009 only three percent of people used their mobile devices as an only method to get online, which means that the number of people doing this has more than doubled. If this continues then mobile devices could indeed become the future of the internet.
