Low cost mobile broadband deals not sustainable

One broadband industry group has claimed that the low cost mobile broadband deals that are currently on the market are not sustainable, as providers will soon need to start making more profit.

Over the past six to twelve months a growing number of low cost mobile broadband deals have come onto the market, and consumers that want to access the Internet whilst on the move have been able to choose from a number of different providers and a range of low cost packages, which have been made available by providers vying for increased business in this increasingly competitive field.

However, officials from one broadband industry group have stated that the low cost deals on mobile broadband that are currently on offer from so many providers will not be sustainable as providers will need to start turning a profit. Therefore, consumers need to make the most of the low cost deals on the market at the moment, as they may not be available at such low prices for much longer.

An official from the broadband industry said that consumers need ‘to make the most of cheap mobile broadband while they can’. He went on to state: ‘UK broadband providers are no mugs; prices are currently low as companies fight for numbers in a growing market, but they realise the situation isn’t sustainable and will be looking to change packages and turn a profit in the near future.’

He also predicted that prices would increase for heavy broadband users in the future, but that the news may not be so bad for those that use mobile broadband on an occasional basis, as more and more providers were adopting and providing packages designed on a pay as you go basis, providing more flexibility and greater affordability for occasional users.
