Lack of information for mobile users over coverage cancellations

Many people these days use mobile network providers for mobile phone usage and mobile broadband. However, many are not being given sufficient information with regards to cancelling their contract if the coverage that they receive is problematic.

These days mobile network operators make their money in a number of ways, with many consumers using the networks to benefit from mobile phone usage as well as for mobile broadband and access to the Internet via devices such as smart phones. However, consumers’ ability to use these services is dependent on the level of coverage that they have from the mobile network provider in the area.

For those unable to get sufficient coverage in their area using these services can be erratic and very difficult. One recent study has suggested that consumers are not being given enough information from mobile network operators with regard to cancelling their contracts in the event that they are not able to get sufficient coverage to use their services properly.

An investigation was carried out by the Communications Consumer Panel, which carried out secret mystery shopper tests. The results of the study showed that over fifty percent of shoppers were given inaccurate information from mobile network operators with regards to cancelling their contracts if the coverage was inadequate.

The study also found that whilst some operators did allow consumers to cancel their contract based on lack of coverage there were others that did not allow this. An official from the panel said that it was vital that consumers were given clear information about cancelling their contracts before signing on the dotted line and committing for up to two years.
