Internet tablet games could cost as much as console games

With more and more people using mobile broadband and internet, as well as a range of devices, there are a number of ways in which they can play games online. However, the cost of gaming for Internet tablets could come in as costly as console games.

Many people these days are using a range of mobile internet and broadband devices, with many using them to play a variety of games. Many of those that have smart phones enjoy playing games via various apps that often come at a really low price or are even available for free.

However, one gaming industry expert has said recently that the cost of games for internet tablets could be closer to the cost of console games because people will play these games for longer on larger screens and they therefore need to be more robust, justifying a higher price. This came from Strauss Zelnick, chief executive of Take-Two Interactive Software.

He said: “The reason the price point is currently lower for an iPhone app is it is used for five minutes, and not for a hundred hours. My take is that small screens will be used for a quick but interactive entertainment experience. Mid and large screes can be a robust and engaging entertainment experience. That’s how my kids play games.”

However, one mobile gaming specialist said: “Prices on iOS games are compressed to free or $1 because this platform is at the centre of the most competitive entertainment software market in history. Surviving here requires a new kind of thinking that, frankly, most of the console industry has been unwilling (or unable) to achieve.”

Would you pay as much for an iPad game as you would for a console game?
