Technology giant IBM has recently released a report into consumer interest in mobile devices for web access compared to fixed line services.

Over recent months mobile broadband has taken off in the UK and around the world, and in a recent report the technology giant IBM has released some figures into consumer interest in mobile devices when it comes to access the Internet compared to using fixed line services. The report indicated that over fifty percent of consumers were interested in taking on a mobile device as their main tool for getting onto the Internet rather than a PC.

The results of the survey, which was carried out earlier this year by IBM’s Institute for Business Value, were released in a report entitled ‘Go Mobile, Grow’. Based on the results of the survey officials from IBM predicted that over the coming ten to fifteen years there would be a notable shift in the way that and method by which most consumers access the Internet.

The report further indicated that by 2011, in just three years, there will be massive growth in the mobile web market for consumer services such as email and entertainment, and by this time there will be growth in this sector of around thirty six percent. The survey was conducted by NetReflector, and around six hundred consumers were polled in the UK as well as in China and the United States, with regards to their Internet access preferences.

The survey found that news and information services, communications, travel and navigation applications all increased in terms of popularity and usage over the mobile Internet. It was predicted that over the coming years the availability of IP wireless broadband will change the way in which many companies operate and interact with customers and employees.
