Gaming industry rejuvenated due to mobile broadband and smart phones
A recent report has claimed that the gaming industry in the UK has been rejuvenated partly as a result of the rising popularity of mobile broadband and smart phones.
Over recent years consumers have become far more demanding when it comes to gaining access to the Internet, and even those that have Internet access in the home want to also be able to get online whilst they are out and about or when they are away from home. This has resulted in the soaring popularity of both mobile broadband services and smart phones, which many people now use for both personal and business purposes.
According to one recent report the increase in popularity of mobile broadband services and smart phones has resulted in the rejuvenation of the online gaming industry, which some claim had been in decline to some degree before consumers started to use mobile broadband services on a mainstream basis.
Nick Parker from the strategic gaming consultancy Parker Consulting said that faster mobile broadband speeds coupled with the popularity of phones such as the Apple iPhone and the apps store had rejuvenated the gaming industry and breathed new life into what had been a sector that was in decline.
He stated: “Mobile was a market potentially in decline actually until the arrival of the iPhone and the App Store, which has rejuvenated the mobile gaming sector. Other smartphone operating systems like Android and Windows Mobile are now contributing to the growth in the sector too.” He added: “A lot of the future of the gaming industry is a number of things. A little bit of it is on broadband download speeds.”
