Forecasts made on global mobile broadband and LTE use

A leading technology and media firm has recently released forecasts over the global use of LTE and mobile broadband via laptops over the coming years.

Coda Research Consultancy, which is a leading media and technology firm, has recently released data detailing its forecasts in relation to the global use of both mobile broadband via netbooks and laptops, as well as the rising number of LTE users by the year 2017. The predictions were made following research carried out by the firm, which looked into the level of usage in both categories over the coming eight years.

The results of the research suggested that by 2017 the number of people accessing mobile broadband via a netbook or laptop would soar to around four hundred and eighteen million, and the number of LTE users would stand at around two hundred and nine million. The soaring numbers of mobile broadband users are expected to generate tens of billions of pounds in revenue – as well as generating around 1.8 exabytes of traffic every month.

Europe is expected to account for around ninety four million users by 2017, but the greatest level of growth will be in the Asia Pacific region, which the number of users is expected to soar to one hundred and sixty two million. Around sixty one percent of users will be within Asia Pacific and Europe. Also, around three quarters of LTE users will come from Europe and Asia Pacific by 2017, according to the Coda predictions.

An official from Coda stated: “LTE take up will be greatly skewed toward European and North American markets in the short to medium term, where ARPU will be highest. However, we will also see significant take up in China, and we may also see countries like India bypass 3G altogether, and move straight to LTE.”
