Fixed line broadband could be overtaken by mobile broadband services

Mobile broadband has been fast gaining popularity over the past couple of years and a recent report has suggested that this technology is set to become the communication technology of the future.

A decade or so ago many households were only just getting used to having access to broadband services, and this seemed like a relatively new and exciting technology for those that were lucky enough to have it. However, consumer demands have changed greatly over the past ten years, and for the last couple of years mobile broadband services have been getting increasingly popular, with a rising number of people subscribing to mobile broadband services.

With mobile broadband services both casual and business users are able to enjoy the ease, flexibility, and convenience of being able to get online whilst out and about, and this has helped to increase the popularity of this technology. In fact, a recent report has suggested that mobile broadband could actually overtake fixed line broadband in terms of becoming the main communications technology of the future. The report claims that despite the recession that the country has gone through the sale of dongles for mobile broadband have remained on an ‘upward curve’.

Report Buyer, which released the report, said: “Both business and consumer users are now eager to keep in contact with others and have information readily available to them when required. Traditional broadband has its limitations – it is restricted to where the network is in place and as such cannot be used while on the move.”

The report went on to state that mobile broadband dongles could prove invaluable to many of those that do not have adequate access to broadband services in the traditional way. This would prove particularly useful in the event that the cost of mobile broadband dongles falls, as it is expected to do.
