Cheaper mobile broadband deals will become more popular
A recent report has suggested that the ongoing recession and the need for businesses and consumers to cut back on costs will aid the popularity cheaper and shorter term mobile broadband deals in the UK.
As most people are now well aware the UK is in the midst of a recession, and one which many industry experts have predicted will be a long and painful one. As a result of the difficult financial climate and the recession both businesses and consumers are looking at ways to cut back on costs, and a recent report has suggested that this need to save money could results in the increased popularity of cheaper, shorter contract mobile broadband deals.
It is thought that mobile broadband providers are likely to see an increase in the take up of one month mobile broadband deals, as consumers and businesses will be keen to reduce costs and avoid the longer term commitment that they would have to deal with if they took out a longer term mobile broadband contract.
O2 is the only mobile broadband provider in the UK that currently offers mobile broadband deals on a month by month basis, but other shorter term contract periods are also set to increase in popularity. Officials have said that there has already been an increase in the take up of short term contract and no contract fixed line broadband, and they predict that the same trend will now be seen with mobile broadband.
One industry official said: “One-month mobile broadband deals are soaring in popularity during the current recession as wary users are shunning long-term broadband contracts in favour of other commitments. Last year, mobile broadband changed the UK broadband industry forever; now with new one-month deals, mobile broadband is continuing to cause game-changing shockwaves. Many fixed-line only broadband providers must be quivering in their cabled boots.”
