It has been announced that mobile network giant O2 has signed a deal with Nokia Siemens Networks relating to the improvement of its current 3G services and support for up and coming LTE technology.

It has been reported that a deal has been signed between mobile network giant O2 UK and Nokia Siemens Networks with regards to the coverage, general performance, and capacity capabilities of the O2 3G mobile networks. The three year deal is said to be a very important one, which will see Nokia Siemens Networks installing base stations that are designed to improve the network operator’s existing 3G mobile network.

The 3G networks from O2 and other providers are experiencing problems because of the high level of demand from mobile phone users, mobile broadband users, and smart phone users, all wanting to use the networks. With more and more people getting internet enabled devices demand has continued to grow, causing congestion and problems on the networks.

NSN will be installing base stations that are designed to improve performance, capacity, and coverage, which will come as great news for customers. With mobile network providers also desperate to roll out Fourth Generation of 4G networks as well, the base stations will be designed to support LTE.

An official from Nokia Siemens Networks said: “We are committed to providing our radio equipment to power O2’s great network and increasing coverage and capacity for Telefónica O2 UK. Our Flexi Multiradio Base Station is recognized as the market leader. The hardware being delivered now, as well as providing O2 customers with faster data rates and better connectivity, will also allow support for future LTE services with a simple software upgrade.”
