Officials say laptops becoming more affordable
Industry officials have recently reported that laptops are becoming more affordable and even higher spec models are now available at lower prices.
In the past having a laptop has been seen as something of a luxury other than for those that have them for business use. However, according to some industry officials laptops are becoming increasingly affordable, and even higher specification models are now available at more affordable prices, giving consumers more choice when it comes to getting the laptop that they want.
One official from Which? recently stated: “Portability does come at a price, but it’s possible to get a good-value, big-brand laptop for less than £800. Size and weight vary considerably, so consider what you need it for and whether weight, power, speed, features or price are important. It’s worth future-proofing your laptop by choosing one with as much memory as you can afford. Some manufacturers will let you customise your laptop to get the spec you want – upgrading the RAM and the processor might help you to get a bit more life out of it.”
Which? recently conducted a survey and tested twelve different laptop models. The one that came out on top was the Sony Vaio VGN-FW11E, which retails for around £699. The one that came out at the bottom of the list, and was penalised for its slow processing speed and the fact that it had no wireless connectivity, was the Sony Vaio VGN-NR32M, which retails at around £429.
Officials have said that many retailers are now slashing the prices of laptops, and major retailers such as PC World are cutting hundreds of pounds of some of their laptop models. Netbooks were highlighted as another effective option for those that are not looking for anything too high spec and want to limit their spending to two or three hundred pounds.
