HP will not offer Linux on laptops

According to a recent report HP has announced that it will no longer be offering the Linux operating system on its new range of netbook laptops.

Technological giant HP has decided that it will not be offering the Linux operating system on its new range of netbook laptops, according to a recent report. When the HP Mini 1000 laptop goes on sale consumers will be able to buy a designed version that runs on Windows XP. A number of other mini netbook laptops from HP will also be available with the Microsoft Windows XP operating system or Windows Vista.

Technology industry experts are said to have been surprised by the decision from HP not to use the Linux operating system, and the only HP netbook laptop that will now be available in the UK using this operating system will be the HP Mini 2133. Experts have said that the use of the Linux system is one of the things that makes netbook laptops so cheap compared to regular computers and laptops, and this has resulted in the popularity of netbooks soaring recently.

The report went on to state that HP had not given any particular reason for its decision to stop using the Linux operating system on its new netbook laptops. However, an official from the company is said to have stated that Windows-powered laptops “better address the market and consumer needs” of consumers in the UK.

Expensively licensed versions of the Microsoft software could end up pushing up the cost of the netbooks, which are popular because of both their portability and their low prices, and this is why many industry officials have been surprised to hear of the decision by HP.
