Following a recent study carried out by a broadband industry group it has been suggested that a rising number of Brits do not feel that mobile broadband deals with free laptops offer value for money.
Since mobile broadband started to become mainstream its popularity has soared, and this has resulted in stiff competition amongst mobile broadband providers. In order to try and entice more customers mobile broadband providers have been offering a range of incentives with mobile broadband services, and the most common incentive that many mobile broadband providers have been using is the offer of a free laptop or netbook with specified mobile broadband packages and contracts.
However, whilst consumers were initially bowled over by the thought of getting a free laptop when they signed up for mobile broadband contracts many seem to have come to the conclusion that these laptop deals actually do not offer great value for money and are not as impressive as they may have originally come across as being.
More than sixty percent of those polled in the survey said that they did not feel that free laptop mobile broadband deals offered value for money. Only fifteen percent were of the opinion that the deals offered value for money. One official involved in the research said: “Mobile broadband has been getting a pretty rough ride in the press recently, and a lack of consumer confidence in the product could be a key contributor to this result. Mobile broadband has been around a while and customers are starting to getting savvy to it. As a result, people are starting to take a second look at laptop deals.”
He added: “Laptops and netbooks are hugely popular right now, and are very competitively priced. There are some great leading brand models on offer from the likes of O2, 3, Orange and Vodafone, so I’m not convinced the laptops themselves are the problem.”
