Political debate causes surge in online traffic
One UK broadband provider has stated that the recent leaders’ debate that was aired in the run up to the election caused a surge in online traffic as consumers made use of their Internet services to see what the three party leaders had to say.
In the run up to the election, which is due to take place this week, the three party leaders, David Cameron, Nick Clegg, and of course Prime Minister Gordon Brown, have been doing all they can to secure the support of voters. In an unprecedented move the leaders have even taken part in live televised debates over the past few weeks, enabling consumers to learn more about their views on a variety of important issues.
Viewing figures for these debates have shown that they have proven very popular amongst consumers who want to learn more about what the party leaders have to say about a variety of issues, and the popularity of the debates has been reflected not only in television viewing figures but also in the increase in online traffic that has been seen during these all important debates.
One Internet Service Provider, Eclipse, has stated that the latest leaders’ debate caused a surge in online traffic as consumers used their internet services to see what the leaders had to say in the debate. Many consumers visited streaming sites during the final debate, which took place last week, with Eclipse reporting a rise of one hundred and eighteen percent to such sites.
An official from Eclipse said: “It was interesting to see that with the final debate focusing mainly on economic issues, online traffic was at its highest point than at any time previously across the three weeks.”
