UK will see over half a million fibre broadband subscribers this year
According to a recent report the UK is set to see around six hundred thousand fibre subscribers this year, with unprecedented growth set to be seen with superfast broadband connections.

Whilst Virgin Media dominated the fibre broadband sector in the UK for some time, the availability of this high speed fibre based service is now becoming more widely available, and with so many consumers and businesses keen to get their hands on high speed broadband in the UK it is thought that this will lead to unprecedented growth when it comes to super-fast broadband take-up this year.
The prediction has been made by the telecoms analysis group Point Topic, which has said that whilst there are currently around forty five thousand subscribers currently on next generation access with their broadband service this could be set to increase by over ten times to reach around six hundred thousand, as consumers and businesses flock to get their hands on high speed broadband access.
One of the main reasons behind this expected growth when it comes to high speed fibre based broadband take up in the UK is the aim of communications giant BT to provide access to its Infinity fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) services to around six million homes by the end of this year. Point Topic claims that this figure is ten times higher than the number of homes that can currently get access.
It is thought that BT is currently adding around four thousand fibre broadband customers a week, but it is thought that by the middle of this year this could more than double to around nine thousand a week. It is then expected to increase again to around fourteen thousand a week. Virgin Media is also expected to nearly double the number of people that are subscribing to its 50Mbps fibre based broadband service by the end of this year.
