Surge in number of UK broadband connections

May 22nd, 2008 by Richard

According to a recent report there has been a surge in the number of broadband connections in the UK, which has rocketed to over fifteen million

Over recent years broadband has continued to gain momentum in terms of popularity, and according to a recent report there broadband connections now come to over fifteen million. In fact, industry officials state that the number of broadband connections is now over fifteen and a half million,. With BT taking the majority market share with twenty six and a half percent of the market. These figures come from the communications regulator Ofcom.

With an increasing number of providers offering low cost broadband in order to remain competitive, and with the increased number of Local Loop Unbundled (LLU) lines, the popularity of broadband has soared even further. However, despite this growth and increased popularity some industry officials state that there is room for far more growth, stating that there are sill around seventeen million people nationwide that are unable to access the Internet either at home or at work.

One industry official commented on the competition amongst broadband providers, pointing out that broadband providers have been looking at a variety of ways to try and increase their customer base. He said: “As the broadband market becomes increasingly saturated ISPs will be looking to increase their customer base by enticing consumers away from rival providers.”

The cost of broadband can vary dramatically from one provider to another, and consumers are urged to take the time to compare broadband deals before making any commitment, especially if they are signing up to a long term contract that could prove difficult or expensive to get out of in the event that the broadband package proves to be expensive of poor value for money.
