North East Fife communities get a broadband boost
We’re still well into the second week of the new year, and BT Broadband is still showing no signs of slowing down. BT has been aggressively deploying fibre since last year for their new BT Infinity service. The fibre deployments were initially set to be completed on 2015, but the firm’s accelerated schedule has pushed the finish date back a full year to 2014.
BT’s deployments are in conjunction with the government’s Broadband Delivery UK program, which hopes to bring universal broadband access of at least 2Mbps to the entire country. Aside from that, the government is hoping to provide next-generation broadband services to ninety percent of the UK by the year 2015.
Now three north east Fife communities have been slated to receive superfast broadband services by next summer. This was announced by BT as it revealed the new wave of areas that will be benefiting from their broadband rollouts, including Ladybank, Newport and Wormit.
Close to 23,000 households and establishments all across Fife will have their broadband connections upgraded as a result of the rollout.

Brendan Dick, director of BT Scotland, stated: “At a time of economic uncertainty these major improvements will provide a big boost for many Fife businesses and offer additional educational and entertainment opportunities for local households. And we want to go further. We want to work with the public sector to find ways of bringing faster broadband to areas which are geographically and commercially more challenging.”
North East Fife MSP, Rod Campbell, also commented on the news: “I am very pleased to hear of this investment coming to north east Fife, and that these towns and villages will feel the benefit of next generation broadband.”
The president of the Fife Chamber of Commerce Bob Garmory added: “Fife Chamber of Commerce has campaigned tirelessly for this standard of broadband to be made available to businesses throughout Fife. We are very pleased that BT have committed to the spend as detailed. We will of course monitor the business benefits for those in the areas covered and continue our campaign to have all of Fife’s business community connected by faster broadband as soon as possible.”
