How effective will BT Infinity broadband service be?
Officials from communications giant BT claim that the super-fast fibre based Infinity broadband service will revolutionise Internet usage but some rival providers have claimed that the speeds may not be impressive as some people are expecting.
The end of February is set to see the launch of the much hyped super fast, fibre based broadband service from BT, which has become known as the BT Infinity broadband service. Download speeds with the service should be five times faster than standard speeds, with speeds being offered of up to 40Mbps.
Whilst officials from the communications giant have stated that the higher speeds that will be available from the new broadband service will make a huge difference in transforming the use of the Internet there are rival providers that have said that the speeds that users achieve through the service may not be as impressive as they are hoping, and this is because the final part of the connection into homes will still be via copper based cables, and this could seriously affect speeds giving users speeds of up to 20-25 Mbps rather than 40Mbps.
BT is hoping to provider four million homes with the new high speed service by the end of this year, and by 2012 it is hoping that forty percent of homes will have access to the high speed service. The starting price of the Infinity broadband service will be £19.99 a month, which BT claims is far lower than the price charged by rival Virgin Media for fibre based broadband.
An official from BT stated: ‘The internet is essential to our customers’ lives and they are demanding more and more as richer and even more compelling services become available. BT Infinity gives customers the capacity and reliability they need in an instant and at a great value price they can afford. We want to give our customers the best possible online experience and are committed to rolling out super-fast speeds across the UK.’
