Jan 8 2010 / By Rob Webber

There has been further expansion with the fibre-optic broadband network rollout from BT after the communications giant announced a further sixty three exchanges to which the network will be extended.

With the UK said to be seriously lagging behind many other major economies when it comes to broadband speeds the implementation of the next generation broadband rollout from BT is being eagerly awaited by many consumers and businesses. The rollout of next generation broadband is to cost one and a half billion pounds, and BT claims that the roll out will reach around ten million homes, or forty percent of the population, by around 2012.

There has now been further expansion of the fibre-optic broadband network rollout from BT, with the provider announcing a further sixty three local exchanges to which the network will be rolled out. This means that the network is now available at over one hundred and sixty exchanges in total, and could provide users with speeds of up to 100Mbps, which will prove highly beneficial for many consumers and businesses.

As a result of the wholesale agreement in place with BT partners of the communications giant will also be able to offer high speed broadband under their own brands through the use of the BT fibre-optic network. The announcement of the next round of exchanges to which the network will be rolled out will be the fourth phase in the project.

Amongst the exchanges that have been announced in the latest list from BT are areas that are in London, the South East, the West Midlands, the East Midlands, the North East, the South West, Wales, Yorkshire and the Humb, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
