BT to roll out superfast broadband in Audlem

Dec 30 2011 / By Hazel Chua

The government has been working hard to make improvements to the state of broadband in the UK. The Broadband Delivery UK program was launched specifically for this purpose. The goals of the program is to provide universal broadband access of at least 2Mbps to the entire UK. Another was to bring next-generation broadband services to at least ninety percent of the country by the year 2015.

BT Broadband has been especially active in the past few months with their broadband roll-outs and upgrades. They are working ahead of schedule in laying down fibre, which will be completed by 2014. The firm had initially announced that the project would be done by 2015, but an accelerated working schedule is now allowing them to finish a full year ahead of time.

Now residents and establishments in Audlem will be happy to hear that they will soon be enjoying superfast broadband connections by the summer of 2012. The broadband giant has revealed that Audlem is included in the latest phase of their roll-out expansion program.

Aside from Audlem, 24,000 other homes in North Staffordshire and South Cheshire will be included in the future expansions and rollouts. With the upgrade, users will be able to gain access to broadband speeds of up to 20Mbps.

BT’s regional director John Dovey said: “BT’s roll-out of faster broadband across the region is running at a very rapid pace. We have already announced plans to make super-fast fibre-based broadband available to more than a million homes and businesses in the West Midlands by the end of next year. Now we are able to confirm a further major investment in faster broadband speeds over copper lines.”

He added: “Nobody is doing more than BT to roll-out faster broadband across the region. At a time of economic uncertainty these major improvements will provide a big boost for local businesses and offer many additional educational and entertainment opportunities for local households. And we want to go further. We want to work with the public sector to find ways of bringing faster broadband to areas, which are geographically and commercially more challenging.”
