BT to help 3 Ireland to increase mobile broadband speeds

May 30th, 2008 by Richard

Thanks to winning a lucrative contract British Telecom is to help provider 3 Ireland to increase both mobile broadband speeds and custom

According to a recent report telecommunications giant British Telecom has won a lucrative contract thought to be worth around thirty five million pounds to help the Irish mobile operator 3 Ireland to expand its network and increase speeds for its subscribers. The venture should enable 3 Ireland to increase its speeds as well as its customer base by significant levels.

3 Ireland is looking to enjoy increased expansion, increased custom, and provide greater benefits to its customers, and this is something that BT can help with now that it has won this contract. Investment into the network infrastructure should enable 2 Ireland to improve its service in many ways whilst increasing its client base and therefore its profits.

It is thought that this move will enable 3 Ireland to offer a much faster connection speed to its subscribers, as well as increasing the speed of its mobile broadband network. It thought that the company’s phone masts will also be dramatically boosted to ten times the current levels, from seventy to seven hundred and seventy. The company currently has a client base of around eighty thousand, but this is also expected to increase significantly.

According to the report the technology provided by BT will enable 3 Ireland to offer a 7.2Mbps mobile broadband connection speed to subscribers, and it claims that this could rise to as high as 14.4Mbps over the course of this year.

An official from 3 Ireland stated: “3 has made great inroads in the broadband market through constant innovation on price and deploying the best mobile technologies. As the leading provider in the Irish mobile broadband market, with more customers using 3’s network than any other, we’re delighted to be driving Ireland up the broadband league tables. This new agreement with BT will help us progress even further.”
