According to recent reports thousands of broadband users could be left without their service as a result of a planned strike by workers of the communications giant BT.

It has been reported that thousands of broadband connections across the UK could be adversely affected by a planned strike by workers from then communications giant BT. The strike could take place as a result of delegates of the Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) voting to hold a ballot.

An industry official recently stated that thousands of people could find themselves without broadband access as a result of broadband crashes that stemmed from then strikes. The anger stems over strikers expressing their anger over senior officials at BT receiving huge bonuses that exceed one million pounds. It is thought that thousands of home broadband uses as well as many business broadband users could suffer as a result of the strike action.

A union official said that the strike was all about promoting fairness, stating that staff members were not concerned about senior official receiving bonuses but more about the success of the company being shared amongst all workers in terms of finances. The report went on to state that it was front line staff that ensured that savings were made and budgets were met yet it was not them that received the bonuses.

A union official said: “This is about fairness. We don’t mind senior executives getting bonuses, but we want all staff to share in the success of the company. Striking is a last resort and not something to be taken lightly.”
