Communications giant BT has announced that yet another milestone has been reached in the world of high speed broadband, with the company announcing that is has signed up its fifteen millionth customer.

High speed broadband
has become increasingly popular, and with more and more people wanting to benefit from all that broadband has to offer a rising number of people have embraced the availability of broadband services in the UK. Communications giant BT has now announced that another milestone has been achieved in the world of high speed broadband, with the company having signed up its fifteen millionth customer.

Three quarters of the UK’s homes and small businesses have now taken up broadband a decade after it was first launched in the UK, giving Britain an impressive take up rate compared to some other developed countries. Olivia Garfield, BT strategy director, said: “Broadband Britain has been a success story with widespread availability, low prices and high take-up.”

Competition amongst broadband providers has become increasingly tough, and one industry analyst said: “There has been a price war in the fixed broadband market in the last two years, with the average price of a connection falling. The speed of broadband penetration is starting to slow, and some markets are nearing saturation.”

There are still many people not connected to broadband, and in some cases this is through choice rather than lack of access. An official from the Office for National Statistics said: “Usage is closely linked with a number of socio-economic and demographic indicators, with those less educated and on lower incomes less likely to access the web.”
