BT reveals super fast broadband access locations
Communications giant BT has recently revealed the various locations where customers will first be able to benefit from its super fast broadband access.
Recently, communications giant and leading Internet Service Provider BT has announced the various locations where customers will first be able to benefit from the provision of its super fast broadband service. The communications and telecommunications giant has said that around five hundred thousand homes across the UK will benefit from speeds of between 40Mbps and 60Mbps as part of its super fast broadband service.
A number of locations have been identified as being amongst the first to benefit from this super fast broadband service, and this includes Edinburgh, Cardiff, and Manchester. In the autumn of this year a further one million homes is likely to benefit from the super fast broadband service, as the next phase of the rollout is announced later on in the year.
Steve Robertson, chief executive officer of Openreach, which is responsible for the delivery of the plans, stated recently: “Super-fast broadband is essential to the UK’s future and so it is great to announce this initial set of locations. The wider industry will now be able to plan ahead as we will be making our services available on a wholesale basis. This approach will benefit customers as there will undoubtedly be fierce competition for their business.”
Meanwhile, Ofcom, the UK’s communications regulator, has recently announced that whilst many households are still able to afford access to the Internet despite the global credit crunch, many have said that they cannot see the benefits, and some have said that they will not pay out the extra money to upgrade to super fast broabdand.
