It has been reported that the final quarter of 2010 proved very successful for Internet service providers and communications giant BT in terms of new broadband customers.

Communications and broadband giant BT kicked off this New Year on a high after enjoying a very successful final quarter of 2010 according to recent reports. Figures that have been released by BT have shown that more than half of all new broadband customers decided to opt for BT as their provider of choice in the last three months of last year.

The three month period saw BT attracting around forty thousand new broadband customers, which was close to double the number of new customers that it gained in the third quarter of last year. A further 356,000 customers were added by providers that were operating through the BT network.

Ian Livingston, chief executive of BT, said: “Openreach benefited from a stronger broadband market and growth in its copper line base. BT Global Services is now expected to be cash flow positive this year, a year earlier than targeted.” He added: “These results show that we are making progress on a number of fronts.”

The provider is also said to be in discussions with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games with regards to providing WiFi internet coverage for the 2012 London Olympics. Stuart Hill, vice-president of BT, said: “The rise in the amount of data being consumed by mobile users since the Beijing Games in 2008 means that mobile operators want to be able to offload data from their networks. So it’s sensible to think about the use of Wi-Fi technology to do this.”

Are you one of the people that jumped on the BT bandwagon at the end of last year, and if so why did you choose this provider over others? Let us know with your comments
