With BT’s super-fast broadband having been launched in Scotland many businesses will now be able to enjoy trialling the high speed service for free.

Scotland has recently seen the BT super-fast broadband service go live, and business in the area are able to enjoy speeds of up to 40Mbps by singing up to a free trial with BT. The service is through fibre to the cabinet and businesses that sign up to the trial will be able to enjoy download speeds of up to 40Mbps and upload speeds of up to 2Mbps until March of next year. BT has put aside one and a half billion pounds to connect forty percent of the UK to faster broadband by 2012.

BT recently carried out research that showed around sixty one percent of SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises) found that faster broadband speeds had a positive effect on their businesses. Another twenty eight percent were using faster broadband to improve their website capabilities, and another twenty five percent used it to improve on the technology that they were able to use to aid the smooth running of the business.

Bill Murphy, managing director, BT Business, said: “Superfast broadband is the future of business technology. Two thirds of firms already recognise the positive impact of faster speeds. Our three superfast broadband trials will allow businesses to tell us just how they want to use the services and what’s possible in real world conditions.”

Another industry official added: “Whether you run a small business or work from home, a fast, reliable small business broadband connection can make a huge difference to your company – and a next generation fibre connection will allow you to take your online presence to the next level.”
