Broadband providers slated by members of House of Lords

According to a recent report two members of the House of Lords have verbally attacked the communications giant BT and other broadband providers in the UK.

It has been reported that two members of the House of Lords have recently launched a verbal attack on the communications giant BT along with other broadband providers in the UK. The two members of the House of Lords accused BT and broadband providers in general of passing the buck when it came to sorting out faults for customers.

In fact the two Lords. Lord Corbett and Lord Erroll, highlighted a number of things that needed to be addressed. In addition to accusing broadband providers of passing the buck the Lords also stated that Internet service providers needed to provide a minimum speed if 2Mbps, and that the minimum level of service needed to be provided to the consumer in writing. The Lords also branded the communications regulator, Ofcom, as arrogant, adding that it needed to do more to make broadband providers be more truthful about connection speeds.

Speaking in a recent interview with PCPro Lord Corbett stated: “If a customer reports a fault to BT, or any other landline provider, the line provider has got to own that fault or faults until cleared. If the customer reports a broadband fault to their ISP, and the ISP believes the fault to be due to the landline, the ISP has to take ownership of the fault until cleared.” He added: “The consumer must have a one-stop shop. The buck passing of fault reporting being the responsibility of the customer must stop. How can a non-technical customer expect to be bounced from call centre to call centre?”

Lord Erroll stated: “BT, or any other line provider, has a duty to keep the lines up to standard. Their bosses are sitting on the fence, hoping for a cash injection. The lines have become unsuitable for internet use, even if they are usable for the telephone.”
