Broadband problems result from BT job cuts
The job cuts that have been imposed by communications giant BT have reportedly resulted in problems when it comes to the company keeping up with demand for broadband.

The recession has hit everyone hard over the past couple of years, and many companies have had to shed huge numbers of jobs. This includes broadband and communications giant BT, which has slashed around thirty five thousand jobs over the past three years. However, the company has now had to take on extra resources to cope with its workload according to recent reports.
It has been claimed that BT is finding it difficult to cope with the rising demand for broadband as a result of having shed so many jobs. The company has commitments to corporate customers including Talk Talk and BSkyB, but as a result of losing so many staff has allegedly found it difficult to cope with this increased demand.
BT Openreach has now had to write to customers that use its broadband network to apologise for the poor service being received, which has subsequently delayed the sign up of new customers for those providers involved. The company has also promised that it will improve engineer response times, and said that more recently poor weather had also affected the service.
An official from BT said that customers “…are experiencing slower lead times for engineering and repair visits. We are confident that we can restore normal service levels by re-allocating and in some cases hiring extra resources.” He also said that the company had seen a “substantial and unexpected” surge in demand for services lately.
