Broadband outage experienced in Crookham and Cornhill

BT BroadbandBT Broadband has been very aggressive with their broadband projects this year. The firm has pushed forward with their fibre deployments, rolling out broadband to various exchanges all over the UK. The roll-out was initially said to be completed in 2015, but BT was working ahead of schedule and have since announced that deployment would be finished by the year 2014.

Many areas have had their broadband connections upgraded to faster speeds thanks to upgrades by BT. However, not everything has been good this year, as BT exchanges in several locations have also had their fair share of outages.

The latest outages have been reported in Crookham and Cornhill. Residents in the area have complained that they have not been able to access the Internet for the past two days. Residents also were not able to have phone services for a short period, although it was quickly reinstated later in the day.

Users who have been affected by the outage have raised their concerns with BT. The broadband firm has responded that the outages were due to network problems. BT also said that it might take at least a day or two before the connections will be up and running.

Lauren and Keith Elstob are a couple who were part of those who lost access to their broadband connections. Lauren said: “When you are setting up a new business, it is not ideal when the broadband and phone lines go down. We are not going to let it ruin our opening, we are definitely going to make it happen some how. It just makes it more difficult when you have got a million and one things to do anyway and when things you expect to be OK are adding to your issues.”

Columnist for The Journal and former national newspaper editor David Banks also reported that his broadband connection was off sometime between 1am and 8am on Saturday. He said: “We do not have any broadband and when you consider the fuss the Government has made about rural broadband, if we are going to lose broadband for about four days, it will not just be an odd radio programme being unable to go on air. It is going to be slightly bigger and more important businesses will be affected.”
