Broadband installation won by Borders town
The Borders town of Innerleithen has won a competition that will see it benefit from the installation of super-fast broadband by the early part of next year.

According to a recent report the Borders town of Innerleithen has won a competition, and as a result of this it will be benefitting from the installation of super-fast broadband by the early part of next year. The competition was the BT Race to Infinity competition, and Innerleithen was one of six areas to have won the competition.
The BT competition was based around getting communities to vote to have fibre based broadband installed in their areas, and this gave BT an idea of what demand for the service would be like in the various areas, enabling them to effectively determine whether the installation would be a viable option in any given area.
MP for Tweeddale, David Mundell, said: “It was a fantastic achievement and is a real example of community spirit in action by all those who worked so hard to make sure Innerleithen topped the poll. This will mean better internet services for local businesses, youngsters in education and anybody using the web for shopping, social and domestic purposes.”
He added: “It creates a myriad of possibilities and I hope it will become a flagship for other communities in the south of Scotland as we strive to bring the same level of broadband service to every community in Scotland.” A BT official said: “We’ve been so impressed by the passion and commitment of the people who signed up to campaign for their areas up and down the country.”
