Bad news for Norwich over high speed broadband
It has been revealed that once again Norwich has missed out on getting high speed broadband, and officials are worried that this will dent the economy of the city.
Officials from the city of Norwich were hoping that when BT recently released its list of sixty three further local exchanges that would be hooked up to the fibre-based broadband network that Norwich would be one of the places that was on the list. However, it has emerged that once again the city has missed out and has not made the list of lucky towns and cities that will be benefiting from the higher speed broadband.
Norwich city officials are now concerned that missing out on higher speed broadband again could dent the growth of the city’s economy. Businesses leaders from the area have said that missing out on higher speed broadband again could cause real problems for the city in terms of growth, jobs, and the economy.
Both residents and businesses in the Norwich area will be disappointed by the news, as it means that they will not be able to enjoy the various benefits that high speed broadband offers, from better gaming and interactive services for residents to the growth and additional facilities that businesses can gain from high speed broadband access.
The manager from one IT company in Norwich stated: “If companies find it difficult to transfer data in Norfolk they are less likely to locate to this area, and companies that are here may find they can operate better elsewhere.” Another IT company official added: “Over the next five years technology is going to change hugely, home working. If we are not careful the danger is Norfolk will be left constantly playing catch-up.”
