4000 new users sign up a week as BT Infinity becomes available to more than 3 million
More than three million premises are now capable of accessing the new BT Infinity fibre broadband network according to the latest report from the telecommunications provider, although the number of customers actually signing up for this next generation broadband of service has only reached 40,000 so far.

With a number of broadband providers currently signing customers up for services using BT’s fibre broadband network the figure of 40,000 reported by BT is not completely accurate as it does not take into account these users, although BT has further reported that it is averaging around 4000 new sign-ups to its own services over its fibre broadband network each week.
The fibre broadband network will be providing most of BT’s customers that are connected via FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet) with connection speeds of up to 40Mbps and the provider is expecting to have two thirds of the homes in the UK connected to the new network by 2015. The continued rollout of this new next generation fibre broadband network is expected to cost BT £2.5 billion and by March next year some customers will be able to sign up to be connected by FTTH (Fibre To The Home) which will provide connection speeds of up to 110Mbps.
BT’s customer base rose to 5.34 million in the second quarter of this year with around 114 000 new customers being added to BT’s standard broadband services, which equates to around 45 percent of all new broadband additions during this period.
The chief executive for BT, Ian Livingstone said recently “We have made significant progress in improving profitability and cash flow, enabling us to invest in building the foundations for revenue growth in 2012/13. We have increased our EBITDA outlook for the year and now expect to hit our £2bn free cash flow target two years early.”
He added “Global Services order intake was up 50% at £2.1bn. Our fibre roll out has passed three million premises and BT Infinity orders are now running at over 4,000 per week. BT Vision customers now stand at more than half a million, with more developments planned to enhance our offering. Our share of DSL broadband net additions was 45%, one of our highest shares ever.”
