24 Mbps available to half of UK homes
It has been claimed by the communications giant BT that half of homes in the UK now have access to broadband speeds of up to 24Mbps.
It has been claimed by BT that half of homes in the UK can now access high speed broadband with 24Mbps broadband speeds as a result of its Wholesale Broadband Connect service. The service uses ADSL2+ technology, and allows consumers to take advantage of higher speed broadband services.
According to the provider more than seven hundred and thirty exchanges are now using this t4echnology, which has enabled more than fifty percent of households in the UK to benefit from higher speed broadband services. Businesses are also able to benefit from the higher speed broadband service, which means that they are able to improve their day to day running abilities through the use of high speed broadband.
Whilst the service was rolled out in 2008 the implementation of the service has been relatively slow according to reports, and this means that there has been a delay with consumers and businesses being able to enjoy the benefits of the service. However, the company has been investing its money heavily in next generation broadband.
An official from BT stated: “Already more than 550,000 end-users are enjoying our ADSL2+ copper next generation broadband service, with 20-30,000 more being added each week. Running over BT’s 21st Century Network, WBC offers greater control, choice and flexibility as well as higher speeds. It supports the growing demand for high-speed access to a range of online services, including television, gaming and multiple voice over internet protocol services.”
