Yarmouth residents urged to sign up to broadband service

Residents from the Yarmouth area are being urged to sign up to a new high speed broadband service to enable the town to hang on to £100,000 worth of investment and funding.

It has been reported that officials are urging residents in Yarmouth to sign up to a new high speed broadband service in a bid to hang on to a massive £100,000 worth of investment and government funding that would allow for new equipment to be installed in order to bring faster broadband speeds to the area.

If at least another twenty eight residents subscribe to the scheme, the new equipment can be installed and residents can receive speeds that are two to three times faster than the speeds that they currently receive. The grant was secured by Natural Enterprise as part of a scheme to improve broadband access and speeds and aid economic recovery in the Isle of Wight.

An official from Natural Enterprise stated: “This is a great opportunity for Yarmouth Telephone Exchange users to secure a faster service now and for the future but it won’t happen without the support from Yarmouth residents and businesses. We are so close to meeting our initial target number of subscribers. While we will be making the investment and running the service, this is a community project. The more people who sign up the more the price will come down. When 300 people have signed up, the price will reduce to just £14.99 per month, which is very competitive. Local schools will also benefit, with Yarmouth and Shalfleet primary schools and the Little Stars and Little Explorers pre-schools each to receive £250 when 200 people have signed up.”

Are you a local who will be signing up to the scheme to ensure that it can go ahead?
