Wirral council looks to invest millions in broadband
Wirral council officials have announced that the authority is looking to invest millions of pounds in the delivery of next generation broadband, and is now looking for assistance.
For most councils being able to access and deliver next generation broadband is a very important consideration, and this is something that one UK council is taking steps to ensure it can do. Officials from Wirral council have announced that the authority aims to invest millions of pounds in the delivery of next generation broadband.
The council has said that it is looking for assistance in terms of helping them with this delivery, and wants experienced organisations that can help the council “in achieving next generation broadband access solutions”. The next generation broadband solutions would mostly benefit business regeneration areas according to reports, but this could change as the project expands.
The first round of investments will be Phase 1 of the project, and this is where business regeneration areas will be the main beneficiaries of the investment. However, this could be followed by Phase 2, and this phase could potentially benefit other public sector users as well as citizens in the area, who may be able to benefit from the faster, more reliable broadband service. It is thought that the council will invest between five million pounds and eleven million pounds in the broadband project.
A Wirral council official said: “Wirral council seek suitably qualified and experienced partners to define, design and implement significant next-generation broadband access infrastructure (high-capacity/high-performance) – phase 1 of which is intended to support selected businesses regeneration areas.”
