Winsford Industrial Estate suffers due to poor broadband
It has been announced that as a result of poor broadband speeds an industrial estate in Winsford is at risk of losing some of its businesses, with a number of businesses considering moving their premises elsewhere.

For businesses all around the UK having access to adequate broadband speeds has become extremely important, as broadband speeds play a big part in what business users can and cannot do with regards to internet use. According to recent reports lack of adequate broadband speeds at an industrial estate in Winsford is resulting in businesses considering moving their premises elsewhere.
There are concerns that the Winsford Industrial Estate could end up losing a number of its businesses, with business owners stating that they are unhappy with the speed of broadband. BT has, however, said that it is not economical to provide super fast fibre based broadband on the estate.
One local business owner said: “The internet speeds provided on the industrial estate are really poor. This puts huge strain on our productivity. Staff here quite often go on breaks because the internet is running so slow. We only employ around five staff at the moment but we are looking at taking on two more people right away and our numbers go up to around 10 or 15 staff over Christmas. However, unless we get fibre broadband here before this Christmas we will have to make arrangements to move the business, and our staff, away from the industrial estate. It really is that important to us.”
Mike Kelly, manager of Winsford Industrial Estate, said: “There has been a long standing issue with provision of broadband on the estate. Some companies are finding this an obstacle to progression and in particular Gameseek are considering relocation due to the slow broadband speeds. The Winsford 1-5 Business Environment Group are working with our colleagues at Cheshire West and Chester Council to try and persuade BT to improve the service.”
