Virgin Media has become well known for leading the way when it comes to broadband speeds and technology, and according to recent reports the media giant is now gearing up to offer customers the chance to benefit from 400Mbps broadband.

Over the years communications giant Virgin Media has become well known for leading the way in the broadband sector when it comes to innovation. For consumers that are looking for reliable, high speed broadband Virgin is often the natural choice, and already this provider offers consumers the chance to enjoy speeds of up to 50Mbps with its broadband services.

By the end of this year Virgin has confirmed that even greater speeds will be available, as it is set to launch its 100Mbps service, which will be perfect for those that intend to stream content, download a lot of data, and play online games. However, the media giant does not intent to stop there, and according to a recent report already has plans in place for ultra-high speed broadband with speeds of up to 400Mbps.

Reports claim that Virgin has 400Mbps ready modems and routers in the pipeline already, and speeds like this would enable consumers to do things such as download an entire album in around one second or a high definition movie in around two minutes.

Virgin Media’s director of broadband Jon James said: “We have a big fat dial to give more capacity to customers and there will be a steady series of upgrades.” He added: “The crunch point is coming. There is a step-change in what people are trying to do with their broadband connection.”
