Will Ford in-car broadband come to the UK?
It has been announced that the vehicle manufacturing giant Ford is set to launch in-car broadband in the United States, and this has sparked speculation with regards to whether the same will happen in the UK when Ford is very popular.
Having access to broadband wherever and whenever has become a priority for many people in this day and age, and given the amount of time that many people spend in their vehicles it is only natural that many will want to be able to access the Internet whilst travelling as a passenger in a vehicle or whilst the vehicle is stationery.
According to one recent report the motor manufacturing giant Ford may have the perfect answer to this dilemma, and has apparently announced an updated version of its SYNC in-car entertainment and communication system. The new updated system will use mobile broadband to allow users to connect to the Internet, and will in effect turn the vehicle into a hotspot in its own right.
The system is set to be launched in the United States next year, and it is likely that it will prove extremely popular. No separate equipment or subscription is needed as users will be able to plug their own existing dongles into the system to get broadband access, making this a convenient and affordable way to get online. Many are now wondering whether, given the fact that Ford is so popular in the UK, this technology will be winging its way across the pond at some point.
An official from Ford in America stated: “While you’re driving to grandma’s house, your spouse can be finishing the holiday shopping and the kids can be chatting with friends. And you’re not paying for yet another mobile subscription or piece of hardware because Ford will let you use technology you already have.”
