Website launched to give consumers a voice of Digital Economy Bill
According to a recent report a new website has been launched to give consumers the chance to voice their concerns over the new Digital Economy Bill from the government.
The Digital Economy Bill, which has recently passed through the House of Lords and is now awaiting approval in the House of Commons, has caused a lot of controversy because of certain regulations that have formed part of the bill.
Amongst the areas that have caused the most concerns in relation to the Digital Economy Bill are the regulations that refer to illegal downloading and copyright infringement, which could see suspected illegal downloaders fined or cut off, and could see Internet providers being forced to block websites.
Following approval of the Bill in the House of Lords a new website has been set up that will enable consumers to voice their own concerns over the Digital Economy Bill, and it is hoped that if enough people use the website to contact their MPs about the issues that they have with the Digital Economy Bill its approval in parliament will be delayed.
The website that has been set up for consumers to express their concerns over the Digital Economy Bill is called the 38 Degrees site, and it has been designed to make it fast and easy for consumers to make contact with their local MP to express their concerns. With the measures that have been included in the Bill many people may want to use the website to voice their opinion and raise their concerns.
The 38 Degrees website states: “Despite all this opposition, the government is trying to rush it through quietly just before the election without proper debate – without a chance for us to voice our opposition.”
